mood music

As long as I was snowed in today, I spent a portion of it listening to the guitar stylings of Michael Gargano. I really enjoyed the acoustic guitar and jazz pieces, and hope ya'll will give it a listen and let me know what you think about it too!

You will find some of his music here:

winter

I completely ignore (well, to the best of my ability) the holidays. though I enjoy how people I miss come to town, I interpret it as mad coincidence. and convince myself that trees blooming electrically is mother nature adapting. but I do keep seeing an old guy in red with a big beard everywhere, mostly in stores, when I'm just buying things, and minding my own business. I think he works for the CIA.

in other news, I keep meaning to update here. usually that precipitates an actual post. we'll see.

So Sara and I need help moving.

So Sara and I need help moving. We're going to get a U-Haul and move all of the heavy items first.

We'll play a quick game of Tetris, and figure out the best positioning of couches and desks and TVs (I think I have a good layout planned already, but I'm interested in hearing anyone's suggestions), and then we'll dump all the boxes of stuff (which I still need to pack up...).

I'm thinking Wednesday or Thursday, and Sara and I can probably afford a few pizzas. Would anyone be available to help?

I'm picking up some more boxes tomorrow to get the packing process really going. Does anyone have any free boxes we can borrow (or better yet keep for a while)?

Edit: It's starting to look like Thursday; two guys with trucks have now said that that would be the day they would more likely be available.

I'm struggling with an impulse

I'm struggling with an impulse which I've rarely felt before and even more rarely acted upon; the desire for revenge.

For the first time in months I feel compelled to put my thoughts down in this journal. I miss using it, as it really helps me to examine my feelings and to uncover my motives.

The act and pursuit of vengeance... )

Common Motif

There's this song that I love--well, really a set of bars that I love, the sample they use is not long. It's a motif.
It's been appearing in Dexter for the last season or so during crucial moments in his relationship with Rita.

Pregnancy
Song begins at 8:00.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kmldk3a2pbM

Proposal
Song begins at 1:17.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JryrPvsugq8&feature=related

Wedding
Song begins at 0:13.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW3H7GtKQSQ

None of the fan sites seem to know what it is, but it reappeared tonight. Dexter found out that Rita and his neighbor had kissed, and initially failed to react in any sort of normal way. No rage, no jealousy, no hurt, nothing.
Then, when he finally has a moment to process, he sees the neighbor, tells him to never touch his wife again and punches him in the face. Goes inside his house, Rita puts ice on his hand, the song plays.

Apparently, genuine jealousy is a crucial turning point in a relationship. Or so Daniel Licht would seem to imply.
